Even though the sun is shining we are at war

Our minds are being taken into captivity like never before

Mayhem is the ultimate result from the battle

We're being led to the slaughter like a herd of cattle

Our minds have been skillfully overtaken

Knowledge has been stolen and our foundation shaken

Common sense is an unused tool from the past

Without knowledge I am not sure how long we can last

No food for thought we'll have nothing of that kind

Mindfully choosing the worst out of every situation

No seeking and searching for a higher observation

We gave up on education without so much as a fight

Sadly we are so full of ourselves and don't feel contrite

We make up excuses for the battles we are loosing

Wisdom is something we are no longer choosing

Uncovered heads without a helmet for today

Unguarded minds with every thought on display

We are at war in our minds being pressed at every turn

If we don't protect our heads how will we ever learn

At times I think I've got it! but then I'm proven wrong

Not sure if it's my conviction or my will is not that strong

Could it be that I'm easily persuaded to simply change my mind

Or is it that I'm not deeply rooted or the answers change over time

Could it really be that simple and not be that complicated

Or am I not trusting in the lesson over analyzing the obviously stated

How can I keep those lessons I've learned and bind them upon my heart

How do I not allow them to be stolen and inevitably be torn apart

I think I should remind myself of the feelings I had when the lesson came

And not allow those negative voices in and put what I've learned to shame

A sower went out to sow some seeds and thought that it was good

Oh, how our eyes have been opened just to be closed again

Holding truth but for a moment to let it go in the end

Revelation of a thing while in its infancy if not held close

Allows the tempter to come in and rob you like a ghost

When truth is revealed we aren't always able to hold it for long

Being mere babes in our revelation our minds aren't that strong

Wanting to believe in someone or something even after being revealed

Dismisses what you have learned and it is your fate that you have sealed

Although that revelation still rings true in the back of your mind

Your reality not fantasy will reveal it time after time

When revelation comes to you, you must hold on to it tight

Allow your mind to use it as your very own guiding light

The tempter will use every tactic to try to take what's revealed

He knows if he can keep you back he can really seal the deal

Take a look around at all those people playing part in your life

Who's the one that continually gives you the most heartache and strife

Those are the revelation stealers and are your very own tempters

Instead of cultivating what has been revealed and treating you like a mentor

They try to get you to give up on what you have realized

Telling you what you have learned isn't true and at you they're really surprised

Hold on to your revelation because it's nothing but the truth

Eventually the tempter will give up and have to turn you loose

See The Bigger Picture

She believes she hasn't been worthy throughout the years

She hasn't always been the biggest fan like she should

Looking for wrongness in everything that she could

Didn't care for all that had to be done to achieve success

A part of her always felt some kind of duress

Threatened by what could happen if all goes as planned

Will she be the same woman left to stand

Half-hearted belief in the possibilities that all could go right

But what if seems to torment the visions she sees when she lays down at night

Instead of asking if there is anything that she should do

Thoughts tainted and stained sticking to her mind like residue

If only she could feel the vibrations of a bigger plan

If made awake surely she could begin to understand

The magnitude of the destiny can't be measured by the Richter

You can always choose to look at a situation two ways: either positively or negatively. Why would we choose to look at something negatively? Is it because we don't believe in ourselves? Or because we don't believe in others? Or because we don't believe in the Creator?

When I get excited about all of my plans

Some deranged thought will try to tip my hands

Make me look at the possibilities that something could go wrong

But then I laugh because for that I am way too strong

My belief is somewhat in myself but mostly in the Creator

My faith is in what is happening now and not what could go wrong later

Not trying to put my faith in the hands of another

Not because they are my sister, friend, brother, or my lover

But to the one who happens to always direct my path

The one who knows all of my deepest dreams and never laughs

So when those negative thoughts try to creep in

I stop them short before they have time to begin

Remembering that my thoughts hold the master key

And I will use those thoughts to unlock the door to my destiny

Controlled Emotions

Initially I wanted to lose my temper, get loud, and get bold

But then I realized the situation was not one that I could control

What had been done had already happened to me

There was no way to undo it or control it, you see

But what I could control was the way I decided to react

So I chose to keep my emotions and my feelings intact

Deciding to take the higher road meant being more mature

And I recognized that there was something to being more demure

I chose to look at the situation in a more retrospective light

In the past I would've used more energy just to start up a fight

Today I could use that energy in a more positive way

And that situation that happened didn't have to ruin my day

So I now choose to look at situations as a blessing in disguise

And I try to figure out the lesson from which I could arise

Instead of raging out of control and expelling negative energy

To allow the situation and my reaction to create positive synergy

Uncertainty in life like that of Doubting Thomas

Hesitation in speech so as not to make it clear

Driving decisions like a car with no intentions to steer

Detached from accountability does not make one viable

Without liability there can be no cover

Carrying No-Fault insurance like an accidental lover

Everyone of us are responsible for every single choice

Even when we choose not to fight or lift up our voice

We're moreso responsible when we choose to let others decide

Because with their decisions we still must abide

Allowing others to make decisions for you is what you chose

Extreme positions from left to right like handles on a water faucet

One minute you’re just fine and the next minute you have lost it

Looking back into your past I could see why things seem so serious

But at what point do you realize that you can let it go and not be delirious

Treating people in your present as results from your hurtful past

Walking with your head turned backwards you’ll never see the contrast

How much longer before you look forward to see the actions of your ways

Maybe soon you’ll grow tired and be done with this childish phase

Maybe you’ll see that it’s not you that everyone is trying to offend

Maybe you’ll evolve and grow wiser and begin to comprehend

That everything does not take a negative comment or reaction

Hopefully you’ll see that what you are is what brings the attraction

Most of us will not come of age at the same time

For some the age of reason will be hard to define

They will understand the plight of others and use it as a gauge

Some of us will have to live alot longer to discover reason

Coming of age through our trials in our season

Some will take longer to develop from their surroundings

Abandoning all reason because they were left like foundlings

Some will never learn to reason with age

Carrying their lives like badges like they were on center stage

Some will go to their graves marred by lack of maturity

Holding on to the past like it's a blanket used for security

Never understanding that the art of reasoning becomes the key

It is the age of manifestation that holds your destiny

But sharing with others may save someones life

Even when the words feel like self sacrifice

To dismiss someones story because you may not comprehend

A life that you surely never had to contend

Seeing someone's pain if only but for a moment

Can let you in to a place where they felt torment

Giving you a better understanding of where they come from

And the reasons as to why some actions make them seem numb

We should never discount anothers story because of the words they choose

Some of us say we want better but we're too afraid to move

Too afraid of our choices too afraid we might lose

When we stay put we have ourselves to blame

Because we're afraid to go where others don't know our name

So we stand still in a place where we say we don't like

A place where we continually struggle and have to fight

Fighting for a place where we should not ultimately be

Too afraid to get up too afraid too leave

Too afraid we might miss something that we shouldn't even see

Too afraid of a better place where our blessings might be

Too afraid of something that we haven't physically seen

Bitterness is a hard pill to swallow

Closing our eyes and ears like blind, deaf, and dumb

When did we start lowering the content of our words

To portray that we're not as intellectual so that we can be heard

At which level do we decide to sacrifice our popular demand

Leaving the inheritance of our young to eat out of our hands

When did we lose the effectual wisdom of the greats

Where the social economy of knowledge would move from state to state

When did we decide to recklessly abandon clarity and understanding

When did intellect and wisdom became much too demanding

Who gave the verbal command to justify ignorance as a way to settle

Who said that life without reproach was okay to peddle

When did we begin to accept laziness without any refuse

To encourage lack as a way to diffuse

When will we begin to seek wisdom as a way to live

To know that lack of understanding is not an excuse to give

That we should search out the truth for every question

Trusting that the answers are not in complexion

We are limitless in the possibilities in which we should expect

Guarded hearts do not consider the choices we have to select

Closed eyes and clutched hands cannot give nor receive

They cannot be opened to more, please don't be deceived

When we walk without expectations we limit our ability for more

We sacrifice our chances for what the Creator has in store

When we close our thoughts we are unwilling to dream

We are unwilling to be more not knowing what Faith can bring

When we look with deceptive eyes we question all to expect

Closing ourselves off thinking we have ourselves to protect

Predatory minds preying on our own soul's ambitions

Locking doors to the possibilities of our current conditions

Apologies should be given for our own self-made contentions

For the dreams placed high above our reach held in suspension

When we dare not open our eyes to all life's possibilities

We are held to the responsibilities to our own proclivities

The inability to seek more allows the chains of fear to hold you bound

Thirty Day (Review)

What a good and thought-provoking story. I found that I was questioning myself throughout the book: Am I living a lie? Am I living the life that I think I should? I love books that spark something in me causing me to dig deep. Like you, I too believe that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. A lesson is a lesson is a lesson. It's all about what one does w/that lesson that matters. Kori just needed to sit herself still and be by her dang on self for a minute. & stop falling for them damn red bones...(I'm not bitter, really. I love being brown...LOL).

After reading that, the nuggets I'm walking away with are: be grateful, be thankful, my situation may not be as bad as someone else's, but it's mine, confront your issues head-on - no matter how painful, trust yourself and have faith because GOD has a plan for you and it will manifest itself when you allow him to do so.

Limited vision allows the inability to see into the future

Lack of expectation is due to minimal thinking

Missed steps add to the chain that you're linking

Grasping for straws looking for a savior

We've wandered around aimlessly without fulfilling the ultimate task

But we conclude to something else that's the new and the latest

We've forgotten to obey because we've gotten distracted

We deceive ourselves into thinking that we've done our best

When we know that our current lives are symbolic of the past

When we can understand that we only get one life to live

Speaking To Offense

We try hard not to offend others but at what cost

Is it at the expense of our own feelings that get lost

How can we tell our feelings to another so as not to offend

The rules of the perception of others is what we try to defend

Our own perceptions we lose when we choose not to speak

Leaving ourselves open ultimately feeling petty and weak

Trying hard to get our point across without offending

Choosing carefully our words so later hearts won't need mending

Sometimes its not the words chosen that are openly spoken

Not even the tone that leave lives shattered and broken

It's the perception of the words to the one received

Choosing to hear the words in context and not be deceived

Those words spoken are their perception and to them reign true

Being open to their hearts and be receptive all the way through

Holding their words as the feelings in which they believe

If those words truly aren't so then give them what you conceive

Lives broken because of unspoken perceptions

Leaving them to their own devices because of their Vision's selections

If perceptions are not open to positive discussion

The mind will conclude to its own production

Producing hurt feelings because of what they did not share

Unspoken words due to possible offense is a heavy cross to bear

Sun, Air, & Water

Iwonder if he knows he’s the Sun because he brightens up my day

Thateven when it’s cloudy outside I know the Sun never goes away

Sometimeshiding behind the clouds waiting for his turn to shine

Brandinga bright and sunny smile to show he doesn’t really mind

Iwonder if he knows that without him I simply cannot grow

Thesun on my face allows the light in me to show

Iwonder if he knows he’s the Air breathed directly from my lungs

Thefirst time that I breathed him in instantly I was sprung

Sometimesoverwhelming the air may seem to be too much

Power To Change Your Path

Your path is a result of the foundation once laid

It is the journey from which the bed that you've made

A boy not ready to take steps to becoming a man

A wandering soul without a conscious plan

A dampened spirit effected from actions caused

The rules were broken as well as many different laws

Your actions speaks volumes to the uncertainty of what you're worth

Somehow your crown got switched shortly after birth

Misconceived thoughts of what to do to maintain

One would think it is an unreadiness to be prepared when seasons change

It becomes the new once again wishing for the old

That type of wishful thinking can lead you out into the cold

It is the opposite to a Mother's ritualistic prayers

Spiritual words spoken because she genuinely cares

Longing for your path to take on a new direction

Seeking guidance from a higher Power asking for your protection

Waiting for a sense of peace from knowing what is to come

Your self-inflicted struggles gave her the invitation to feeling numb

She decides to hand you over to a Power higher than all

That Power will be there to catch you when you fall

It is that same Power to help you change your path

She looks forward to the day she no longer cries but laughs

To sit in a court as if it were a perk

I didn't ask to be in this game

But because I left I guess it's one and the same

Trying to raise people when they're grown

Because they didn't have the proper training at home

Having to sit and try not to worry

As if this was to be my life's story

I try to always give the truth in it's rarest form

Letting them know that this life isn't the norm

Trying to define for them the life of a mistake

But my messages of life's journey they're not willing to take

Not wanting to see it from a Mother's point of view

Not trying to listen to words that are true

I know that they're trying to define their own life

But they're headed for doom by not doing what's right

It's not as if they don't know that their end leads to destruction

Statistically another young Black Man's life brought to reduction

But for some reason their intent is different from me

Who says the Apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Sometimes it rolls down the hill and changes into different fruit

Not willing to be legally successful wearing Armani suits

Not sure why they don't believe that they are Kings

And why they aren't willing to go after their dreams

Victims uncertain of their own worth

Even though they've been told since birth

Not sure why they don't even get who they are

Why they choose so different by going so far

Doing no wrong I still feel like I'm in jail

Reneging early in life no longer able to post bail

I can no longer hold on to this guilt

Not willing to continue upon the foundation once built

It's now time that they take full responsibility

Live in the truth of their own capabilities

Their lives are no longer for me to be responsible for

They're old enough to walk through their chosen door

I'm no longer willing to sit in the jail

What you go and do that for? Why Supa Man, Why

You were like Supa Man and didn't even know it

Your cape was magical but you never let it show it

You were too busy marvelling about the S on your chest

When you didn't even let your cape do what it does best

You keep trying to walk through walls and use your X-Ray vision

Letting that cloud your mind and persuade your decisions

You underestimated the cape thinking all it does is fly

But now you're sitting without it and you don't even know why

Your cape was the thing you should've cherished

But you acted like you didn't need it and now you sit embarrassed

Your cape was the object that would let you soar to higher heights

But you practically gave it away without even so much as a fight

Silence

The Creator gave you a voice but you can not speak

Your lack of conversation can go on for weeks

With no desire to describe how you are ultimately feeling

You choose silence as a way of dealing

You decided long ago that others aren't worthy of your words

For what? They'll only act as if they were never heard

Silence says everything but yet nothing at all

It rarely gives accountability when your backs against the wall

Your silence says "I'm not sure how to tell you what I need to say

honestly if I said it, you wouldn't understand it anyway

I'd rather stay silent than to give you a chance to hear me out

I'd rather you sit and guess what my silence is all about

When I'm silent I become the one with all the power

It makes you sit up and take notice that I am truly a delicate flower"

Silence is not golden when it is done out of spite

It's not even a reward when you believe that you are right

Silence can be the key to apparent miscommunication

It can also be used to avoid an entire situation

But what silence can also do is tear people apart

Especially when it pertains to matters of the Heart

Loyalty

What can you do with the two people that you love

When they contend against one another and can't rise above

Who do you show the most loyalty to

Who's side should you be on, what should you do

Why is it that you must stay stuck in the middle

Deciding one over the other someone will feel belittled

Someones feelings will be hurt with your decision in the end

Someone will have to lose and even you won't win

Blood is thicker than water is what we always say

But what about when the water has been there everyday

How can that determine who should have your loyalty

Or answer to the question who should you invite to be royalty

Why must you have to decide between the two anyway

Why should someone have to go because the other wants to stay

Why can't they choose to show their loyalty to you

Why can't they agree to get along and let those words be true

Why can't two people who love the same person get along

Why can't they see that the love for both of them is strong

What if you decide to remove yourself from the equation

How would they both feel about that situation

Asking someone to choose between two people that they love

Makes them feel like they are being pushed and shoved

It's different when that person deliberately chooses another over you

When they are trying hard to make the other person see that they do

Trying to eliminate those feelings of sincere guilt

So the balance of the scales they inevitably tilt

When your loyalty is called into question by someone you love

And your chest wants to tighten like a sweaty hand in a glove

All you can say is that your loyalty to them is true

And that the other person has your loyalty too

But you will not choose they might as well get along

You'll support either when they are right and tell the other when they are wrong

The World Around Me

The World is crumbling all around me

And the unsettled dust makes it hard to see

With unsecure steps I continue on my path

Holding on to my Comforter, my Rod, and my Staff

It always seems that when you're reaching higher

The more the circumstances around you seem to get dire

Those around you have no clue that they're being used

If they did, the situation they'd try to diffuse

But even so, I refuse to look to the left nor to the right

Promising this time around I would not lose sight

So come on negativity give me what you've got

I already knew you'd try to take me off my spot

But this time I've got nothing else to lose

The baby needs more than a brand new pair of shoes

It's my place in this world that I'm fighting for

So I'm willing to break down barriers and kick in some doors

The only person that can stop me now is me

I'm on a different level and I've got better places to be

I'm taking my shot and not accepting anything less

Self Survey

Some people will just get it, while others just won't

It's not because they lack the mental capacity, its because they just don't

Some are just not ready to peel back the years of layers

Most just aren't ready to take on the task of being "Self Surveyors"

Maybe they lack the courage to take one hard look

Maybe they believe that their foundation just might be shook

Those that stretch their eyes are open and ready to see

They are looking for something else, maybe a new person to be

But until you are ready to face who you are

Your steps will be limited and you won't go far

You can't make excuses and place false blame

If you don't get to know you, it will be such a shame

Planting Seeds & Producing Fruit

Seeds carried with me wherever I go

Sometimes they're planted so deep that the fruit takes a while to show

Removing the weeds from the uncultivated parts of my mind

When the harvest approaches it's right on time

Seeds enriched with the best process of fertilization

Carefully developed and matured with the fullest of preparation

Allowing it tender love and room enough to grow

Love is part of the process that develops the seed's flow

Seeds maturing and reproducing into more seed

Photosynthesis creating the ability for one to breathe

The climate and the terrain doesn't always seem conducive

Roots so deep but they never seem intrusive

Holding on to Faith when the fruit seems slow

Careful not to reach for fruit that strategically hangs low

Reaping the harvest from the seeds planted throughout life

Now it's time to open up and take a big ole' bite.

When Others Grow & Expand

When we watch others grow and expand
We can't use that as a time to reprimand
But to recognize it as the beginning of growth
Give them credit for stepping out of the boat
Or realize that energy might not be new
Maybe they never felt comfortable to share that side with you
So we shouldn't challenge or put them down
But allow them to revel in what they have found
Or when they begin to speak in a positive way
Not to speak negative about what they have to say
But maybe we should allow it to challenge our thought
Instead of trying to see if they could slip up and get caught
Maybe not look so much for the things that are wrong
But possibly change the track to a new song
Maybe if we allow the growth of others to infect us
We'll expand just a little more and have something else to discuss

Trust That You Have Been Prepared

We don't always trust that we have been made ready

So it causes us to worry and be unsteady

Not preparing you for your Purpose would be unfair

Like sending you to a pack of wolves and not care

It's the same as a Mother who daily teaches her child

She molds them into a state of being docile

Or like the Father who prepares his son to be a Man

Teaching him that when he fights, he also must stand

You wouldn't send your child out without some lessons

Without giving them the tools and your blessings

Sometimes we let fear remind us of what we don't have

Forgetting everything that the Creator has already laid in our path

It's not always true that we must have the highest of education

Sometimes life experience is enough to be victorious over the situation

The Creator may do some things that may seem unfair

Like putting you above someone with experience but did not prepare

Your life has made you ready for this chance

Affording you the opportunity to succeed and advance

With all that seems like faults and imperfections

The Creator has granted you immunity and protection

So don't let anything make you feel like this isn't yours

Because the Creator has already prepared you and opened up some doors

Simply walk towards them and rejoice

Follow the direction of the Creator's voice

Don't let fear distract you from this course

Know that you have been prepared by the highest Source!

Today Prepares Me For My Tomorrow

Today prepares me for my tomorrow

If I am mindful enough to take in and accept the messages that are whispered to me today

My Heart, my Mind, and my Soul will begin to open

If I listen for the messages that gently whisper when something is not exact

And have the courage enough to not only state it, but fix it as soon as it is recognized

Preparation will not fail me because I listened on yesterday

If I listen to the messages that move my heart to take a step forward

Even when fear tries to consume me like wild fires raging through a forest

My mind and heart will begin to accept myself in my entirety, respecting my faults, my slips, and even my falls

If I allow the daily lessons to take me through to the next minute, the next hour, the next day, even through to the next MOMENT

I will recognize that my life has prepared me for every MOMENT that I have lived

If you don't learn today's lessons, you will not be prepared for tomorrow....

No Longer Defined By The Past

Shall we be defined by the path that we no longer take

When we turn back from our previous journey is man allowed to judge our past mistakes

Shall we be charged today with contempt from the ruling of our peers

Why? When our prayers to a higher power they are not worthy to hear

Shall we continuously be judged from one year to the next

For experiences so old they truly have lost their effect

Surely for who we are now we will not be slain

Not given in to slander nor responded to with pain

When will the time come to uplift and lend our support

Rather than responding by giving a negative report

When will we learn to stay in our own lane

And try not to assassinate each other's character by trying to defame

Life is not about who has done the most dirt

Or to see how many lives can be torn down and hurt

But about each of us individually growing to a higher level

Not spitting venom on one another and acting like the devil

We have got to learn how to take another approach

Learn how to forgive and do away with our reproach

For it is not us, who others must answer to in the end

For it is the Creator in whom their lives they must commend

Holding On To The Past

We hold on to the past when we are unsure of our future

Fastening together past life experiences like stitches from a suture

Jagged seams along past unhealed wounds randomly shows

Old cloth and new cloth sewn together disrupts the pattern's flow

Material symbolically woven together that expresses chaos

Moth consumed garments produces the effects of an Albatross

We wear the garb of the past so long that it comes back to the present

Even with all of the knowledge we have we still end up looking like a peasant

Laboring to piece together fibers that are decorative but do not fit

We allow the past to bind us to where we now sit

What will we perceive when the eye of the needle finally passes through

Will that be a pivotal point saying "it's time to renew"

It's time to shed the oppressive covering from the past

It's time to discard the apparel and remove the cast

Will we finally let go of the past to secure our future

Will we allow the wounds repaired so we can remove the sutures

Announce it's time to wear new garments symbolic of recovery

Time to wear the attire of wisdom and discovery

Will you remove the garments of the past

Or will you hold on to see how long it will last

Over-Analyzed Love

Unconsciously over analyzing love to decide whether it's right or wrong

Fearfully unyielding to love until pushed away and gone

Love, over-analyzed to its death before it could even start

Weak to the possibilities of "what if", we tend to break our own hearts

Falling victim to personal distress of what we think love should be

We can't envision true happiness due to painful hurts from previously

Painting damaging pictures from the past on blank canvasses of today

Confusingly applying color to images that over compensate for what they portray

The complexity of love undecorated is already more than enough

No need to confuse our hearts by adding much more negative stuff

We should allow our hearts the space to love without over-analyzed thought

Who knows, maybe the universe will usher in the kind of love that we've always sought

If they'll fall on deaf ears or if they'll soar like a bird

Those that do not hear them will be stuck on the ways of old

Others will hear the sweetness and will swallow the words whole

Those that do not hear them will begin to claim their own defense

The others may not hear them as they think that it's pretense

If only they could open up to hear the meaning behind the words

If only they could seek out the subject and take heed to the verbs

They would learn a brand new lesson that will lead to a new way of being

It'll open up their eyes farther to see a new way of seeing

If they could approve the words as if they were meant to bring them life

And not cease to hear anything further because the words cut them like a knife

If they could let the words that soon follow soothe their battered souls

And not accuse the words of slander and make them turn cold

But if they could learn to see from whence the words have truly come

They would know they were meant to bring their mind & spirit together as one

Until we realize that words are faithful to bring change to life

Only then can we allow ourselves to see things in a brand new light

But if we continually stop at the words that seemingly hurt

By retaliating our feelings with our mouths and arguably tend to blurt

We'll never hear the words that were undeniably meant for change

And we'll never be able to stretch any further than our inside range

The Class Of Life

Sitting here quietly I begin to wonder, "What grade am I in?"

My mind goes back to all of the classes that I've had to attend

I started to grade all of my lessons from the life experience class

Not to mention the ones repeated because the first time I didn't pass

Remedial class brought shame because it meant I didn't learn the lesson

That I hadn't stop to raise my hand nor did I stop to ask one question

Repeating some classes for the second and sometimes third time

Made me proud that I hadn't given up nor did I try to resign

I thank God for the opportunity to let experience be my teacher

It taught me that failure was not an option and to become a wisdom seeker

So when I really thought about it, it's not the grade that I am in

But the lessons that I have learned is what matters in the end

Appointed Time

To confirm that you are open and willing to learning

As the appointed time comes for you to move to a higher level

Preparation has been made so that you aren't easily disheveled

If you are properly aligned you'll see the appointed time coming

Because your Spirit will feel the call right as it is summoning

Everyone has an appointed time upon this earth

But you can't let the adversary stop you for all that it is worth

You must continue to position yourself for complete transformation

When the appointed time comes you must be ready with full anticipation

We must learn to give the perfect balance

To teach our young ones to have goals and to seek out their talents

We must bring out the best in a child

Definitely we must stay in their ears all the while

Knowing that we can't protect them from all of the dangers of this world

We know that we must train up a woman from the time she's a little girl

We must teach our little boys that sensitivity is okay

That the meaning of the word doesn't mean that he is gay

We must teach them that humility breeds respect

That each other's hearts we have a responsibility to protect

We must train them to listen to our words

To think deeper than what we've shared and go beyond that which they've heard

We must teach them that it's okay to be themselves

That perfection can not be bought from off any grocery shelves

We must teach them the benefits of not being materialistic

To ultimately have goals but to also be realistic

We must teach them how to ask the right questions

To let truth be the guide to all of their confessions

We must try to teach the right harmony to balance

And to not let anything stop them because it seems to be a challenge

We must teach them to listen before they speak

And to speak up for themselves and to not be weak

Truly we must lead a child in the way that they must go

We'll pray as they get older that the lessons we taught will continually show

Packages

Packages, with all their array some are more beautiful than others

Some behold them as if the gift is on the outside because of their amazing colors

Some look upon the package as if they already like what's on the inside

Guessing beforehand if the package is worthy to be opened, as they decide

When given a choice of packages we tend to open the least beautiful package last

After we've gone through all of the others maybe it had been better to have worn a mask

We tend to choose the packages that are all decked out in all their finery

Confusingly choosing the most beautiful as if we had spend all day at a winery

With emphasis placed upon the packaging we see the beautiful colors of bows, ribbons, and wrappings

We don't realize until the gift is opened that we have been the benefactor of useless trappings

Some packages seem beautiful to the untrained naked eye

But some once opened make us feel like we have been deceived and given a lie

On the outside some packages hide the nature of the gift and tend to embellish

And because of the package, the giver knows in which we'll tend to relish

But once we have begun to change our focus and our shift

We'll begin to understand that the package is not the gift

It Was Me

I was looking to them for something they couldn't give

Thought that they could help me along the Journey in which I had to live

Thought that their words were inevitably true

Didn't realize until later they were partly the issue

They alone didn't determine my plight

For their presence I took a stand and did try to fight

I didn't understand that they were merely a distraction

My willingness to hold on wasn't a mere faction

I tried to hold on against all odds

Later it was I left with bullets in which to dodge

I put myself in places that were hard to be

The mirror was distorted making it hard to see

It was I who carried my heart on my sleeve

Choosing fantasy and living in make believe

I couldn't comprehend the late effects in which I would contend

Wanting to behold and be more than a friend

It was I who chose to live in emotional poverty

It was I who chose to accept mediocrity

It was I who turned a blind eye

Seeking their love as they made it hard to try

It was I who sought them as if they were a sanctuary

Later I'd realize that they would come like Neverary

For their love I sought it like refuge

Incessantly longing for my soul to be soothed

Magnifying them like they were on high

For the love of them I could've sought to die

Not realizing that in the end I would feel like I did

Seeking out places for my life to be hid

Belittling myself as if it were my personal declaration

From myself I could not find any separation

I became my own Judge and Jury

Swinging down judgement like a fist of fury

Deliberation made me realize that it had all been me

The verdict was read as it was plain to see

Accepting my sentence but changing my path

Transformation has set my mind on its axis
My blood has been flowing like a man with epistaxis
Transformation has not come with a great deal of ease
Habit has been a symptom of my ever changing disease
Tempted to hold on to the ways of the past
Life had permitted me tempered like that of stained glass
Most times I'm holding on by the skin of my teeth
Transformation has yet rendered my will to be weak
Giving in to the challenges of forced but necessary change
Ripped from my mind are the thoughts of being derange
Transformation has been at my heels with such great stride
It's change in me is something unseen from the outside
Transformation discreetly warrants my best on instinct
Coaxing me to listen for that voice that's distinct
Slow is he as he never picks up his pace
Transformation knows this is not some sort of race
Slow and deliberate is he so that change is deeply rooted
He knows that if he is fast the change is unlikely suited
Transformation comes quietly after the remnants of the storm
Paying tribute to the acts of which were recently performed
Transformation rides with his sidekick Mr. Time
As transformation moves forward Wisdom brings up the line
Transformation brought Wisdom along for the ride
Wisdom is the temptress from which you can not hide
She is the insightful knowledge from the "Great Big Pearl"
For without her you can not conquer the world

But I've come to believe that respect is learned
Respect should be taught while yet in the womb

Ultimately as we grow older we have the ability to learn respect
We can learn to be taught from another aspect

Able But Not Always Willing

We never realize that the flame kindled brings such atrocity
We carry the yoke of unforgiveness on our brains
Not withstanding that we keep ourselves in chains
We socially wear the garments of unrest
Upholding karmic law is what we do best
We accept the position of the Punishment Giver
Not acknowledging that we enjoy the retribution that pain delivers
We find others in contempt of our unyielding authority
We don't need to be Right because we are the majority
We officiate in our own game of charade
We'll call time out if you don't know how to behave
We'll hold out until we cause a mutiny
And everything you do we'll put under scrutiny
We are the ones who dare to be the Punishment Givers
Vengeance used to be the Lords but now we deliver

Just think of opposition as a diversion

Content to ruin the hand that you play
But there is strength throughout your struggle
Your fight opposition can't smuggle
When you're on a path toward new directions

Here comes opposition to see if you'll fight
To see if you'll stand up and still do what's right
Opposition is an opportunity for you to transcend

I know it might get hard but the Creator will bring you through

But when your name is called you act like you didn't even hear it
How many of us say that we are ready for a transformation
And realize that we might be called to serve an entire generation
How many of us are ready to be called into submission
Knowing someone will go against you and they won't ask your permission
How many of us think that we should be found without blemish or fault
And when the time comes to speak you feel like you shouldn't even talk
See many are called, but the true laborers are few

Prejudices

I upheld the definition of prejudice today
And for some reason I thought I would never stray that way
But I prejudged someone with my very own heart
And when I realized it I almost fell apart
But then I realized that I had corrected my own wrong
Made myself aware that I was about to sing that old Stereotypical song
I had to stop and bring my mind back into place
And think about the space I was about to create
You'd think it funny because I was prejudging my own kind
I found that racism within race is not simply defined
Just that quick thought made me realize how easy it is to judge
And what if I hadn't given my mind that simple little nudge
What if I had let that little thought carry me away
What if I hadn't stopped to think and allowed my mind to stray
I couldn't believe I was about to put someone else in a box
All because they wore over-sized clothes and donned dread locks
That little thought made me wonder how many of us do this every day
How many of us because of looks keep someone else at bay
Or how many of us define someones character by how they dress
How many of us think they are different because us, they do not try to impress
How do we dare define another and think we know who they are
Who said we were the ones who would set the bar
I decided I'd take no thought on how someone else is dressing
I'd wait to get to know them to see what they were professing
And if time didn't permit us the chance to get to knowing
Then I'll speak, be about my business, and keep right on going

It's Not A Mistake

They say that everyone must make their own mistakes
But why can't we learn from the road that another takes
Why do some of us feel that the same road will net us a different reward
When the consequences will be something that we can't really afford
Most of us think we know how mistakes are accurately defined
We believe that all we need is another space and a different time
A mistake is something that you didn't mean to do
It's not, he or she did the same thing and now I'll do it too
When you know the end result of a negative action
Saying it was a mistake might give your soul satisfaction
For those of us who know that was exactly what you intended to do
Saying it was a mistake is definitely not true
A mistake is not doing something just so you can see how it feels
And when you use that as an excuse you make the word mistake lose its appeal
Mistakes are things done on accident not on purpose
And mistakes rarely yields us a harvest of intentional surplus
A mistake is not an excuse for the negative things we've done
Or to be used when we do things just for fun
Although we can learn from intended actions just as well
Let's not call it a mistake because that action failed
Calling it a mistake will not lead to your justification
Nor will it make better for your situation
So let's not call everything gone wrong a mistake
Just because you wanted to act like you weren't fully awake
Save the mistakes for when you really need to use them
And not to explain away intentional acts just to diffuse them

Consequences

The reward from those desires are truly of relevance
You can innately choose to act upon every single desire
Or you can choose the good ones and the bad ones, extinguish their fire
Your reactions to actions are no one elses' to place the blame
The only words that should come to mind is your very own name
Sometimes we put ourselves in precarious predicaments
Because we're comfortable being uncomfortable & we don't care about the consequence
Sometimes we make ill-fated choices because we say that's all we know
But for ourselves we can't see up, so we think we have no place else to go
Every day we sacrifice ourselves because we believe we can't do any better
So we live our day to day becoming our very own debtor
There could never be a price we could pay for our very own lives
Remembering some of your consequences should make you break out into hives
But even though we remember, we soon seem to forget
And we somehow begin to believe that our consequences aren't legit
We can no longer place blame on others for the things that we go through
At what point in your life do you take responsibility for what you do
We have to know that some of the consequences stems from our past
Even though we might be better now, our penance we can't outlast
Consequences brings recompense that each of us must pay
But isn't it better when the consequence is from something good you did that day

Who's On Deck

One day I let my mind wander, asking "Who's on deck?"
I really wanted God to tell me if I was the one up next
I had to realize that even though my time might be drawing near
That death was simply not the thing that I should let my mind fear
My thoughts gravitated to all the things in life that I had to do
And when I ran down the list, I realized that I had more than just a few
Now I began to wonder, "How do I fit it all in?"
I instantly thought to myself, thinking, today is the day to begin
I always wanted to do something that would forever help many others
And as always, I wasn't just thinking about my Children, my Sisters, or my Brothers
But I wanted to reach well beyond them to be the spark in someone's flame
And if I could give them a word that could help them all the same
So instead of continuing to ask "Who's on deck?"
I began to change my question to ask "What shall I do next?"
As I began to step forward in faith of all that I had to do
The Creator began providing ways, and I gotta tell you once again, it was more than just a few
In helping others, you'll come to the knowledge that you're also helping yourself
And the feelings that you get inside is more than any financial wealth
So instead of letting your mind wander about all the negative things in life
Begin to live while you're here and try to remain in the fight

One Chance

The Seed

Looking over your shoulder from the things you've done

Trying not to leave bits of you wherever you go
Running so fast, I'm sure you have left something you love
Instead of praying on how to deal with it from the man up above

But later in life there will be a hard swallow from that pill

Credit given to those that are shameless
Expressive words used to tell things we've done
Accountability is not revered but shunned
Who authorized the lack in responsibility?
Justifying with supposed mental incapability
Interjecting that we're all identically the same
When it's our tongue that we should try to tame
Making excuses for every little issue
As if our excuses are supposed to soothe like tissue
Excuses given even to ourselves
Pushing down reality past where it dwells
We are products of past excuses once made
We even have excuses about the excuses we gave
Excuses as to why we can't do what's right
Excuses given to mask our plight
Excuses made to those we love
As if being real fits like O.J.'s glove
No explanation needed for our faults
And sometimes our talk don't match our walk
But that's just who we are no way to refute it
An excuse is just a lie...diluted

No more back peddling Destinations
No more hidden agenda Salutations
No more self-inflicted Victimization
That brings about uncomfortable Situations
No more accepting of half-hearted Applications
And no more asking for Reparations
No more luke-warm Adoration

No more babbling from the Amen Congregation
No more psychological Fluctuations
No more intended Improvisations
No more profane Degradation
No more malicious Confrontations
And please, no more harmful Invitations

Break free from the mass Hallucination
That easily partakes in Replication
Doing due diligence in Subjugation

Shoes

Every once in awhile you should step inside someone else's shoes
Then maybe you can relate to some of their issues
Maybe if you knew where they came from you'd be less hesitant to talk
Because for a moment in time in their shoes you were able to walk
Allow yourself a moment before making a statement about someone
That you've tried to help them in some way rather than poking fun
None of us have perfect lives and some lives are open for the world to see
And some of us aren't able to hide from the inside controversy
Some of us walk around as if we're attending some Masquerade Ball
Trying to think we're better than others wearing shoes way too tall
Some of us are walking around constantly in gym or tennis shoes
Always looking for a fight because we think we've got something to prove
Then there are those of us who walk in the summertime wearing boots
Trying to prove that we are rebels and disguising our lack of loot
Then there are those of us who walk around in the best that money has spent
But on the first of the month we don't have money to pay the rent
If we step inside another's shoes we might be able to see what their life is like
But maybe that's too real for us and that's too much like "Right"!

Three Kings

You were all Kings before you were even born
The prophesy did not change even after being forlorn
Your destinies are symbolically tied to one another
And it is not only because you share blood or that you're Brothers
Your destinies are to be more than simplistically great
And it is crucial that you begin to take heed to the path that you take
That you seek deep within and do not make any compromises
Or that you let go of thought & leave your destiny to surprises
All the mistakes that you have and are currently making
Are to prepare you for your future and the journey you'll be taking
My Sons, learn these lessons, and learn them exceptionally well
But in those mistakes do not sit or dwell
Rise up above them and let them be your examples
Do not go back for seconds to taste or even to sample
Let those ways be done with and have enlightened a part of your mind
If you seek out the best in yourselves your true essence is what you'll find
Challenge yourself everyday to become better Soldiers
And try to remember the things in secret I told ya
You must remember that when you are given a brand new day
That you use it to it's fullest in every way
Stepping up the ladder to the Spirit of Success
Give your mind to the Creator to hold and to caress
Let him point you in the direction of your inherit Kingdom
Never move forward without thought or do things random
Keep your mind on higher things and let that be your motivation
Let this message to you unlock the Door and begin your activation
Remember, your destined Kingdom actively awaits
You define your Kingdom by the choices you make

A Conversation

If I could hold a conversation with only you
I'd point out that you're characterized by the things that you do
I'd tell you that you are the greatest of the great
And not to live your life by past mistakes
To keep moving forward in all that you do
And not let those minor set-backs become an issue
Keep holding your head up and remember that you're in control
You don't have to give negative people & things bits of your soul
Not everyone or thing deserves your attention
Don't give them your energy by things that you mention
You're too great to be settling for anything less
And there's something about you that you do best
Let that thing that you do well be your driving force
And the people that you associate with let them be by choice
Don't even allow yourself to be hurt by you
Through your choices your life is designed by what you do
You can allow yourself to be defined by someone else's thoughts
Or you can simply remember that not every battle needs to be won or even fought
If you could only remember that you're the greatest at being you
But with every lesson learned you'll be closer to what's true
Let the essence of you light up for the world to see
Be the best you, that should come naturally

Man-Made Storms

Come in from the storm you're going to catch a cold
Doing rain dances to make it rain; That's not getting old?
Most storms in life we simply dare to create
And when the rain pours we sometimes still don't realize our mistake
Some storms are created out of blatant disregard
We don't think about it until later when we've created a life that's hard
Then we act like we don't know why we're going through the storm
Like we've done all the right things and can't quite get why the clouds have begun to form
Man-Made storms are the most difficult to get through
By the time it's almost over we've lost some of the crew
High winds have come and almost blew us all away
And that's usually about the time that we all begin to pray
Nature's overwhelming forces has decided to attack
Because we've caused the atmosphere around us to violently fight back
We never really noticed the calm before the storm
And thought that everything was okay until Nature started to perform
After the storm came to it's conclusion and you didn't think you'd make it through
You realize now that praying was the right thing to do
Even though the Creator pulled you out of the most difficult storm
You still went back to doing rain dances and decided to conform
At what point do you decide to stop dancing to make it rain?
Do you think you deserve less is that why you put yourself through so much pain?

It is you who gives him the desires to take you as his wife
It is you who makes life make sense
It is the power of your love that is so intense
It is you who can reign in his world
It is through your blessing he is willing to allow his emotions to unfurl
It is only you who can reel him in with a single look
It is you who knows him like the words of the Best read book
It is you who can stop all distractions from entering his mind
It is you who can make him believe that now is his time
It is you who can make him feel like a King, in & out of home
It is because of you his desire is not to roam
It is because of you that he can reigns supreme
With you standing by his side no wonder he is "King"
